The Viking Var

Saturday, May 9

As we slept, the crew was busy working our way UP the Danube to get back to Regensburg. Beautiful scenery along the river, but going against the current was hard and time-consuming work.

Later, as we all sat down to dinner, the Var pulled away from the dock in Regensburg and headed south again, back overnight to Passau.

Happy Mothers’ Day!!

The Viking Var, docked in Passau

Passau, a German city on the Austrian border, lies at the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers. Known as the Three Rivers City, it's overlooked by the Veste Oberhaus, a 13th-century hilltop fortress housing a city museum and observation tower. The old town below is known for its baroque architecture, including St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Bus and walking tour of Vienna

We arrived at Vienna late Monday in a pouring rain. By this morning, it had stopped raining, but was still cloudy and a little chilly. The schedule for today was a “Panoramic Tour” of Vienna. It turned out to be a general orientation by bus followed by a walking tour of about one hour followed by free time of another hour.
